Q&A with Patty Wiseman
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
I like this question because I retired seven years ago from a twenty-five-year career as an administrative assistant in the financial world. Talk about exhausting work! However, after all these years, I’m still energized every day because I get to do what I love. Housework sometimes suffers, cooking suffers even more because I get lost in my writing. However, my husband is the most patient man in the world. He loves seeing me happy. Writing has changed my retirement life completely. I’m traveling, meeting new people, rubbing elbows with fellow writers, making speeches, and simply having a ball.
What makes THAT ONE MOMENT special or unique to you? Can you give us a little story behind the story?
I chose the title because of the experience I had when I met my husband. Divorced and raising two boys, I had a hard time trusting anyone. It was easier to stay single and retain control of my life than to put my trust in anyone again. Ten years passed and then…that one moment happened for me. The instant I met him, something changed inside of me. It took him three times to propose before I would agree to marry, but he was persistent. We’ve been married twenty-four years, now. The best decision I ever made—because of that one moment.
I consider myself a strong woman and all my books are about strong women, but in this one, I wanted to show how vulnerable even a tough lady can be when it comes to matters of the heart. The heroine is a Game Warden. She carries a gun. But, in one area she can never get it right. Men. This book shows the process of one woman who strives to get it right.
What can you tell us about THAT ONE MOMENT?
Ricki Sheridan goes through the worst betrayal a woman can experience. She catches her boyfriend of two years with her best friend. A double betrayal! This isn’t the first time she’s gone through this, but she is determined it will be the last. She takes a leave of absence from her job as a Game Warden in the Dallas, Texas area and heads for the Rocky Mountains to throw herself into a survivalist training camp at Wolf Den’s Lodge. Her intention is to eradicate the emotional pain by concentrating on the physical pain.
An unexpected accident finds her in the hands of the handsome trail boss, Kory Littleton, high on the mountain range with night falling fast. She resists his kindness, tries to push him away, unaware of his own painful divorce.
Stranded on the mountain ridge alone, Kory coaxes her to talk about what brought her to the mountains and, in a moment of weakness, they share a kiss. That kiss shakes her resolve. She resists the weakness of her heart, however, and closes the door on Kory Littleton.
Evil comes to the mountain, unexpectedly, and throws Kory and Ricki into a battle for their lives. Will their bond grow stronger or will evil tear them apart?
Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
I admit I don’t always follow the rules. I study, I go to classes, I examine what experts say and try to take it to heart. My fans love my books. For that reason, I think I am on the right track with my stories and give my readers what they want. But! I do try to be original. I don’t follow template writing. The unexpected is what I want when I read a book. I don’t want to figure out how it ends in the first chapter. Challenge me. Keep me turning the pages. That’s what I want in a good book and I hope that is what I deliver in mine. I write a vintage 1920’s series, also. My die-hard followers clamor for more because they are original and intriguing. I hope I’ve done that with That One Moment, as well.

Award Winning Author Patty Wiseman is a native of the Seattle, Washington area and attended The Wesleyan College in Bartlesville Oklahoma. Northeast Texas is home, now, along with her husband Ron. She created the Vintage Mystery Series, The Velvet Shoe Collection set in the 1920’s.
